This is an absolute must-see concert with Stars, Sylvia Tyson and Scarlet Rivera. First time in New Haven performing together and perhaps not the last?

Sylvia Tyson co-founded the legendary folk duo Ian & Sylvia, which introduced such classics as “Four Strong Winds,” “Someday Soon,” and her own composition “You Were On My Mind,” a big hit for the San Francisco folk-rock band We Five in the mid-1960s. Sylvia is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Order of Canada, the country’s second highest honor for merit. She sings and plays guitar, and along with her 13 albums as part of Ian & Sylvia, has recorded 10 solo albums, including her latest, Joyner’s Dream.

She’ll be singing a mix of her newer material and some of the Ian and Sylvia classics, like “Someday Soon” and “Four Strong Winds,” along with her own song, “You Were On My Mind,” which was a huge pop hit in 1965 by the band We Five. (Steve Earle and Shawn Colvin released the song this past June on their new recording.)

Scarlet Rivera is probably best known for her searing violin work with Bob Dylan as part of the Rolling Thunder Review and on his albums Hard Rain and Desire, but she has also recorded 11 solo albums and worked with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Tracy Chapman, the Indigo Girls, Keb Mo’, and David Johansen.

She met Bob Dylan by chance crossing 13th Street and 1st Avenue in New York, she says, “I really believe that it was a hand of destiny that put us together.” Perhaps that same hand of destiny has put Scarlet Rivera and Sylvia Tyson together.
