LAYERS OF LOOKING Paintings and Attic Stories. Fabric at close range, an orange plaid jacket. A moss-covered rock and shed roof. Or looking up at a tree, the structure of branches and colors of leaves. And a kaleidoscope of hues in the iris patch. Captured with paint. Connecting characters, imagining what-ifs. Intertwining fact and fiction. Finding the essence. Bringing stories down from the attic. Respecting people. Encouraging creativity. Captured with words.

Donna Hansen Scymanski writes and paints, sometimes combining the two media, as in her illustrated book Attic Stories. Under The Berm, in progress, will also include her artwork. Educated at Ripon College Donna received a B.A. in Art and Philosophy. Her studies included a junior year abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo. A summer spent at the Harvard Graduate School of Design – Career Discovery Program – led to interest in pursuing a career in architecture. She attended the Boston Architectural Center with a field study in Norway after which she received her M.Arch from the University of Chicago at Illinois. Donna resides in Connecticut with her husband and daughter. Their son lives in New Hampshire.
